It takes a little creativity to stay active without melting into a puddle once Central Texas feels like the sun's surface. Here are five clever ways to stay active and beat the heat.

A Splash in the Water

Water is always a great choice to stay cool, and it doesn't matter if it is Lake Belton, Stillhouse Hollow, or your neighbor’s pool (just be sure to get permission). Water is your best friend. Paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming, or even just floating with a cold beverage are ALL qualified activity during the heat.

Ice Skating at The Crossover

The Crossover located in Cedar Park has an indoor ice rink that is an ideal workout and way to beat the heat. More than likely you aren't going to be pulling off any double axels (or even making it a single lap without falling), but you'll have a great time in cool environment!

Early Morning or Late-Night Walks

Set the alarm or grab your flashlight! Much more forgiving temperatures can be found during the sunrise or after 8 p.m. Bonus, you will see a beautiful Texas sunrise or lantern bugs depending on where you roam!

Join an Air-Conditioned Gym/Studio

This may seem obvious, but right now is the time to use the gym membership you swore you did not forget about. Yoga, Zumba, or strength training; just be sure to confirm you are standing under the AC unit!

Cool Zone Parks and Splash Pads

If you are a parent or just an overgrown child, look for splashpads and shaded parks in the area. Lions Junction in Temple or the Quarry Splash Pad in Leander are fun places to cool down while remaining active. Sometimes a puddle makes a perfect impromptu splashpad:

Honorable Mention: Play Video Games Indoors While Ignoring Household Chores

Is gaming technically "active"? No, but you will feel completely drained of all energy while trying to avoid your wife’s requests to complete all her "home improvement" projects while your real focus is on scoring touchdowns against 12-year-olds online that keep insulting your mom for some reason.
