A 20-year-old Belton man was behind bars Thursday morning after allegedly burglarizing several vehicles in Temple overnight.

Sam DeLeon with KWTX reports that Temple police were called to the 8400 block of Starview Street after someone reported a car burglary. A witness said he heard his car's door slam, then saw a man in a hoodie looking into the vehicle.

Police later observed a man burglarizing a car and took him into custody. He was identified as Samuel Grey Ferguson.

Police allege Ferguson was in possession of property from eight cars, and that he twice attempted to escape custody while handcuffed.

Jail records indicate that Ferguson was booked into the Bell County Jail at 4:06 AM Thursday. He's been charged with eight counts of burglary of a vehicle, a single count of failing to identify or giving false identification, one count of evading arrest, and a third degree felony listed as "offense unknown".

According to records, Ferguson remained in the Bell County Jail Thursday afternoon in lieu of bonds totaling $50,000.
