The 2016 Regional Swim Meet 3-6A was held in Rockwall, Texas on Feb. 5 and 6. Swimmers of the surrounding districts competed to see who would represent the State of Texas in the State Championships of Swimming.

The Belton High School swim team, consisting of approximately 18 students, faced their opposing challengers with grace and determination this past weekend. BHS was represented by fierce Tigers in 21 of the 24 events and earned three spots in the State Championships - all of whom took first on the podium for the weekend. First place was earned in the Girls 100 Yard Breaststroke by sophomore Kelsey Johnson with a time of 1:05.78 and sophomore Noah Henry earned first place in the boys 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 50.06.

The girls team of sophomore Kelsey Johnson, sophomore Maddie Finley, junior Maggie Murphy, and senior Savannah Henry earned first with the time of 1:38.32 in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay and second with the time of 3:35.32 in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.

In other events, junior Maggie Murphy placed third in the girls 50 Yard Freestyle with the time of 25.11. Sophomore Kelsey Johnson placed second in the girls 100 Yard Freestyle with the time of 52.48. In the girls 500 Yard Freestyle, junior Maggie Murphy placed fourth with the time of 5:09.50 and with the time of 58.52, senior Savannah Henry placed fourth in the girls 100 Yard Backstroke. On the boy’s side, sophomore Noah Henry placed fourth in the boys 100 Yard Butterfly with the time of 50.41.

State Championships will be held at the Texas Swim Center in Austin on February 19 and 20 where you can root for your Tigers,
