Central Texas blood supplies are in desperate need of healthy donors.  A blood drive has been set to happen in Temple on Wednesday June 3.

The blood drive will take place at the Olin E. Teague Veterans Medical Center located at 1902 Veterans Memorial Drive in Temple.  The Drive will happen between 9 a.m and 3 p.m.

Central Veterans Affairs Health Care System along with Carter Blood Care are sponsoring the event.

According to the Carter Blood Care website "Our community’s blood inventory is in a critical shortage. There is less than 1 day’s supply and no available support to bring in blood from other community blood centers, due to a nationwide shortage. The effects of the quarantine and social distancing, as well as available locations to host blood drives, have made our efforts to keep up with demand even more challenging."

According to the VA Center, anyone wishing to give blood will be screened. You'll be required to wear a mask as well. If you have any symptoms such as coughing, fever or shortness of breath, please do not attempt to come to the blood drive. Instead, you're encouraged to immediately seek medical treatment.

If you're healthy and able to give blood, please contact either the VA or Carter Blood Care.  The community is in serious need of blood donations.
