Boo, Y’all! Texas One of Top 10 Most Haunted States in America
Our ghosts at night are big and bright...deep in the heart of Texas!
There are a lot of weird things in our state, but it looks like we've moved down on the list since 2020.
However, Texas is still one of the top 10 most haunted states in the nation.
Texas Hauntings
Two years ago, the Lone Star State was named the most haunted state in America, according to Forbes magazine.
2020 statistics had Texas residents witnessing over 6,800 paranormal activities in a 15-year span, dating back to 2005.
California was second in 2020, with 6,444 reports of unexplained activity in the same time frame, and Ohio came in third with 2,555 sightings that year.
The Most Haunted States of America
There seems to be a difference of opinion, since treetopia.com listed Texas as the number one most haunted state for 2021 in their list.
Their ranking was based on reports from the online database of paranormal activity Ghost Sightings of America and the Shadowlands Haunted Places.
The Most Haunted City in America
According to Ghost Sightings of America, the city with the most reported supernatural incidents across the country is El Paso, Texas.
One of the most haunted sites in El Paso is considered to be the historic De Soto Hotel, which suffered massive damage from a fire earlier this month.
I chose the movebuddha.com list of most haunted states in the nation because it was based on a large number of factors.
Each state was ranked in 2021 on three factors:
- Spook Score, which includes the amount of haunted places by population, founding date of oldest town, and the amount as well as the age of the oldest cemeteries in the state.
- Creep Score - this is the total of unsolved murders by population and how many abandoned buildings the state contains.
- Boo Score, or how many ghost towns the state has, and ghost sightings by population reported in the state.
Which State Has The Fewest Ghosts?
The list from movebuddha.com includes Washington, D.C., which isn't actually a state. However, D.C. still has plenty of creepy places!
With that addition, there's a total of 51 areas in the ranking.
Last on the list is Idaho. (Here's 6 of Idaho's most haunted locations). Apparently, ghosts don't care for potatoes.
It looks like the second least haunted state is Minnesota. Guess it's just too cold to haunt people there!
