A certain type of scam is emerging once again across the nation, and it may soon make its way to Texas. Here's what is known at the time of writing.

"Brushing" Scam And How It Affects You

Per CBS News, here's the how the scam works. A business looks for a person address online, and when they find it, they send products to said address. In addition, after the item is transported, the company writes a false good review with the person's name.

This untrue review leads to the company gaining better overall status, which in turn, leads to boost in profits. But gaining recognition this way isn't looked at positively by sites.

Online Companies Provide Ways To Call Out Those Who Do This

CBS News received a statement from Temu, which is one of the companies that deals with this issue:

"In the case of brushing, Temu strictly prohibits this practice and will take action against violators."

Amazon is also a company that has brushing scams occur with their products. CBS News suggested the following if one were to encounter the scam. CBS stated that first the individual should contact Amazon, Temu, or whichever company they received the unknown object from.

Texans should also make an attempt to talk to the sender, and request and fake reviews be removed from websites. One should also look at credit reports and switch passwords on their online accounts.

As this is a developing story, we will have more information when it becomes available.
