A true American hero, Chris Kyle, was killed on Saturday doing what he loved to do.

Kyle was at a gun range in Glen Rose Texas trying to help a troubled former soldier, when that soldier turned his weapon on Chris Kyle and another man and killed him.

Police said the shooter, identified as Eddie Ray Routh of Lancaster, Texas, fled the scene and was arrested later without incident.

Police said Routh used a semi-automatic handgun, which was found at his home.

Routh, a 25-year-old Marine who served in Iraq and Haiti, turned on Kyle and another friend for reasons that are still not clear.

Kyle was known as one of the deadliest snipers in military history, and recounted tales of his tours of duty in his best-selling book, "American Sniper." Kyle was awarded two silver stars and five bronze stars during his military career. Since his retirement, the Texas native had been working with many veterans trying to help them through the troubles that he suffered with.

He was even in Killeen recently signing copings of his best selling book.

Here's an interview Kyle did with Conan O'Brien last year, when his book came out.

Let our prayers be with him and his family...
