City of Temple officials are considering altering the Solid Waste Department’s collection routes in order to accommodate population growth in the city.

The Western Hills area of the city could see collection days shift from Tuesdays and Fridays to Mondays and Thursdays. Officials hope the change will mean garbage collectors will be able to perform pickups at more homes along each route, resulting in fewer trips to the landfill.

The city has seen a 20 percent increase in solid waste customers in the past decade, but only one route was added during that period. The city currently has 10 routes on the north side of Temple and 10 on the south.
