The Copperas Cove Police Department has made a bold statement to Kia and Hyundai owners after thefts of Kia and Hyundai models have become a substantial issue. There has been a trend of thefts of Kia and Hyundai vehicles that were manufactured between 2011 and 2022 that utilize a mechanical key which covers many models.

🚨 Recent Thefts & Attempts Reported

CCPD reported two vehicles stolen in the area of Creek Street and Deorsam Drive with each being a separate Kia model. There were multiple attempted vehicle thefts in various places around the city, and there are various vehicles with flaws that the thieves have found a way to exploit.

🔒 CCPD has some recommendations for vehicle owners to protect their vehicles:

• Use your garage or park in a well-lit area when possible and keep outside lights on overnight.
• Lock your doors and keep anything visible and valuable out of sight.
• Use a steering wheel lock or other visible exclusion device whenever possible to deter criminals.
• Check with dealers for free software updates or anti-theft devices from manufacturers who may be experiencing the same issues.
