Many in the state of Texas love Costco.

There's a lot of shopping centers in the Lone Star State after all. Every individual who lives in the state will have their top pick. Every has it's perks, and one could lead a Texan to choose their favorite.

But what would draw many to love Costco? None other than the food court. But, you may be wondering, why a food court?

Well, the hot dog has grown in popularity over the years, mainly for its price. It has stayed at $1.50 forever hasn't it? But, if you love Costco for the hot dog, and their other food court offerings, one major change is coming.

The Big Change To The Costco Food Court Is...?

For those who frequent the shopping center, it is well known that you need a membership to purchase items. But, the membership, at the time of writing, isn't needed to get previously mentioned food court items.

But the winds of change may be coming soon. From a post on Reddit, a sign was found stating that beginning on April 8th, memberships will be required for all patrons to get the coveted Costco Hot Dog. According to USA Today, changes regarding memberships for everybody in the store have been enacted in the past.

USA Today reports that Costco has begun, beginning last year, to see their memberships with a photo when shoppers are using the self-checkout lanes. This is to prevent non-members from using the self-checkout areas. Costco stated this to the news organization about it:

"We don’t feel it’s right that non-members receive the same benefits and pricing as our members...Costco is able to keep our prices as low as possible because our membership fees help offset our operational expenses, making our membership fee and structure important to us."

So, it looks like getting a Costco hot dog will be a bit harder to get without a membership in Texas. With 38 of them in the Lone Star State, as per the Austin American-Statesman, looks like some Texans will need to get a membership!
