Today in Country Music History: Texas Towns and Broken Hearts on June 27th
June 27th has given us some great country music moments that are still heard on radio throughout the great state of Texas and outside of it.
Christian Kane
On this day in 1974, Christian Kane was born in Dallas, Texas. Kane has appeared on television series such as Angel, Leverage, and Into the West. He's also the lead singer of the country southern rock group Kane. With his gruff voice and southern style, Kane offers an authentic mix of acting and music that engages the fans and keeps them coming back for more.
Luckenbach
Back in 1977, Waylon Jennings was holding the number one spot on the country charts with "Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)." The song was released during the height of the outlaw country movement, and it reflected a return to simpler times and small-town roots. Written by Chips Moman and Bobby Emmons, the double-sided hit was one of Waylon's biggest songs and helped to place Luckenbach Texas (population 3) on the map.
Achy Breaky Heart
In 1992, Billy Ray Cyrus was shining in the spotlight. "Achy Breaky Heart" was at #1 on the US Country music char. The song was originally titled, "Don't Tell My Heart", and it was first recorded by The Marcy Brothers before Billy Ray Cyrus recorded the song. The song peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100, and it would also become the first country single to achieve platinum certification after Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton's, "Islands in the Stream" in 1983.
We went from outlaw songs to pop crossover hits on this day in country music history. June 27th is a very memorable day for country music.
