
Today in Country Music History: July 2nd
July 2nd is a big day in country music. Today we are looking back on July 2nd and the big hits that some big names of country music right here released.
1991 – Trisha Yearwood Makes a Splash
On July 2, 1991, Trisha Yearwood released her eponymous album, Trisha Yearwood. It only took listening to the first few notes of the opening track "She's in Love with the Boy" to know that this artist was meant to be a star. "She's in Love with the Boy" was her first #1 hit. Other songs on the album; "Like We Never Had A Broken Heart", "The Woman Before Me" and "That's What I Like About You", were also hits. The album also had "Victim of the Game", originally recorded by her friend (later husband), Garth Brooks. The album peaked at #2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, and it was the beginning of a long and successful country music career.
2010 – Lady Antebellum Cleans UP
Now fast forward to 2010 and Lady Antebellum albums, Need You Now, was #1. The title track was a huge crossover hit for the group that won four Grammy Awards with it. Need You Now won Best Country Album and was nominated for Album of the Year. including Song of the Year and Record of the Year. The single Need You Now won Song of the Year and Record of the year cementing the trio as one of the biggest successes in Country Music history.
2015 – Little Big Town Shows our Industry Has Bite
On July 2, 2015, "Girl Crush" hit #1 on the US Airplay charts. It won two Grammys (which if you do not understand is not any small feat), and it was the second most played song of the year. It has since reached 6x Platinum in the U.S.
2023 – Morgan Wallen Breaks Records
Morgan Wallen's album One Thing a Time was #1. It had the longest consecutive run at #1. It spent 19 consecutive weeks on the Country charts.
