Crews in North Carolina Were Unable to Save Two Children Buried by Collapse at Construction Site

Crews working tirelessly since Sunday afternoon have recovered the bodies of two children buried when a wall of dirt fell on them at a home construction site in Stanley, North Carolina.

A 6-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy were playing in a 24-foot-deep pit when the walls of the 20’ by 20’ pit fell in on them, burying them alive. The father of the boy dialed 9-11 shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday when he witnessed the collapse. Authorities arrived at the scene within minutes, but crews were not able to get to the children in time to save them.
