There are many animals here in the state of Texas. Many enjoy spotting a rare animal that they've never seen for a long period of time. But for one bird, the Lone Star State hasn't seen it since a certain year.

When Was The Extremely Rare Bird Seen In Texas?

The answer was revealed by Chron. According to the news organization, the moment happened on September 14th, 2025. Around the town of Nixon in Texas, an unknown private property showcased an elusive species of bird.

The owner of the property's grandchildren noticed the bird, which everyone was unaware of what type of bird it was. For help, they got in contact with Ginger Coleman, who was part of a Facebook bird watching group in the area.

What Happened When The Picture Appeared, And What Was The Bird?

Following the posting of the bird picture in the group, bird watchers from around the state quickly packed up and made their way to the area just to see the bird. Eventually, the bird was discovered to be a double-striped thick-knee, last seen in Texas in 1961. But why was it so rare?

Per Chron, the bird mainly stays in Central and the north part of South America. It can also be seen in the southern part of Mexico. So, with all the birdwatchers heading to the area, did anyone get to see it?

Well, as reported by Chron, 40 birdwatchers got to see the bird fly away from the area. As told to Chron by Dania Sanchez, a birdwatcher:

"It flew over us to an open field where the remainder of the birders who stayed late got a treat and saw it for 20 minutes, then we all left."

Hopefully, the bird will return to Texas soon!

How to Make a Pumpkin Bird Feeder

I can't take credit for inventing this clever fall-themed bird feeder. I actually saw it first posted by the Farmer's Almanac. This is the Pumpkin Birdfeeder I made with a Hudson Valley pumpkin and some birdseed grown in the USA. Nature arts and crafts at my house turned out to be really easy and fun to watch once the squirrels and chipmunks found it.
