See Amazing Bald Eagles and Their Revolting Babies in Texas
There is a saying that "ugly babies make beautiful adults", and I always thought that was just something that the parents of grotesque looking baby came up with to make themselves feel better. There may be some truth to it, though, at least in the animal kingdom.
The bald eagle is considered one of America's (if not the world's) most majestic creatures. That beautiful white head, and those glowing yellow eyes shine bright in the sky. The bald eagle has a beak and talons that look as if they were designed to spill the blood of our country's enemies. You can see with just one look why the bald eagle was chosen to be our country's national bird.
Of course, that one look is limited to the adult bald eagles. The babies, or eaglet, are one of the most god-awful ugly abominations to have ever been put on planet earth. The eaglet looks like a bald eagle came down with mange and was rolled around in the ashes of a campfire. To think that two beautiful bald eagles could create something as stomach churning as the eaglet is mind blowing. It could only be compared to Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans having a baby that ended up looking like Jonah Hill.
Fortunately, unlike Jonah Hill, the little baby bald eagles are destined to grow up to be some of the most beautiful and majestic creatures in the world, and right now you have a chance to see them in person during their ugly duckling phase. The Aransas National Wildlife Refuge in Texas has recently announced that there is an eagle's nest with a baby eaglet that has recently hatched.
Bald eagles were once on the endangered species list, but thanks to conservation efforts they are no longer considered endangered. Now is your chance to go see a beautiful bald eagle family in Texas. Well, the mother and father are beautiful, and 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
