It's hard to predict who's exactly going to win the Oscars every year, but the competition for this year's Best Actor award was particularly stiff. Early reports had it going to Michael Keaton in Birdman, while some people suggested that Benedict Cumberbatch in The Imitation Game could be the underdog we've been waiting for. The nomination has since been released, and the award now goes to one adorable, humble, young British man: Eddie Redmayne.

Redmayne played Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything. The film, a romantic biopic, told the story of the brilliant young physicist who simultaneously struggled with motor neuron disease and intimate relationships. The film received four Golden Globe nominations, 21 SAG nominations, and 10 BAFTA nominations. It also received 10 nominations from our very own Academy.

In Redmayne's (well-timed, and so charmingly delivered) speech, he said: "I don’t think I’m capable of articulating quite how I feel right now. I’m fully aware that I am a lucky, lucky man. This Oscar belongs to all of those people around the world battling ALS. It belongs to one exceptional family – Stephen, Jane and the Hawking children. I will be his custodian. I will be at his beck and call. I wait on him hand and foot."

We're so happy for Eddie. Continue to follow PopCrush's live coverage of the awards all night long. After that, we encourage you to go to sleep.
