Every Texan’s Favorite Invention Turns 117
We're fixing to get a cold front here in Central Texas. The highs will "only" be in the 90's and MAYBE we'll get a day that peaks in the upper 80's.
Despite the frigid temperatures, most folks will not be turning off their air conditioner. That leads me to believe that most Texans all-time favorite invention is the good ole A/C.
Who do we have to thank for this wonderful luxury? Engineer Willis Carrier, a native of New York of all places. Way back in July of 1902, Carrier invented the first air conditioning system to cool down a printing press factory during a particularly hot summer, according to an article from NewsWest9 .
Carrier's design has hardly changed over the years. Pretty impressive.
There's nothing really special about a 117 year anniversary, but with his idea being such an important part of our lives, we should all give Mr. Carrier a little thank you.
