Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, there is a federal ban on evictions of tenants who failed to pay rent.

According to a report from ProPublica, Texas is one of four states where landlords violated the CARES Act by moving to evict a tenant for failure to pay. The CARES Act was created to help provide relief due to the pandemic caused by COVID-19.

ProPublica spoke with some of the landlords who filed evictions, and some were simply unaware of the federal ban, and have since pulled the filings. With the state of current events, it can be hard to process the changes that we are facing daily.

However, some national groups are still hoping to protest the limits of the ban. The CARES act prohibits the filing of evictions till July 25, and rumors of new bills are circulating everyday.

I hope that these evictions are ceased immediately, losing a place of safety right now is the last thing people need.
