Florida Georgia Line to Perform for Troops on World’s Biggest USO Tour
Florida Georgia Line are participating in a grand gesture for the servicemen and women in the U.S. and across the world. The trailblazing duo has been tapped to headline the World's Biggest USO Tour, a live concert taking place in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 12 that will be streamed for service members and fans alike on the USO's official website.
The duo of Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard describe the effort as one that's "very near and dear to our hearts." Kelley shares that his grandfather was a prisoner of war and two-time Purple Heart recipient, and both his uncle and cousin have also served overseas. "The opportunity to perform for our troops is deeply personal to me and I'm grateful to work with the USO on what's going to be an amazing event," he says in a video announcing the special concert.
Servicemen and women and their families will be present for the live performance in Washington, while several satellite parties will take simultaneously place all around the world. Actor Adam Devine of Pitch Perfect and Modern Family fame will also appear, along with Chef Robert Irvine, star of the CW talk show The Robert Irvine Show and recipient of the US Department of the Army Outstanding Civilian Service Award in 2016.
Country music has been a longstanding supporter of the military and USO, with the likes of Trace Adkins, Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood, Loretta Lynn and Willie Nelson all taking time to entertain the troops and veterans, while Kellie Pickler has spent several Christmases participating in the USO tour overseas.
