George Strait turned back the clock at the 2019 ACM Awards on Sunday night (April 7). The King of Country shared a live performance of "God and Country Music" with the crowd.

Rustic images of old churches and fertile fields lit up the background during Strait's rendition of his spiritually aware celebration of country music's timeless appeal. An audience filled with peers and young stars, likely with fond memories of growing up hearing Strait's record-setting list of hits, responded with reverence for both the message and the messenger.

Strait recently extended his residency in Las Vegas, which he's been playing since 2016, and he released a brand-new album, Honky Tonk Time Machineat the end of March. The record features such songs as "The Weight of the Badge," and includes appearances from Willie Nelson and Strait's 6-year-old grandson Harvey, the latter on "God and Country Music."

Strait is not nominated for any awards during the 2019 ACM Awards, but he'll be back onstage for an ACM Flashbacks performance with Miranda Lambert.
