Late last summer at Comic-Con 2012, 'Glee' series regular Kevin McHale (Artie Abrams) jokingly proposed that he'd like to see 'Sons of Anarchy' star and 'Married With Children' icon Katey Sagal take the role of his oft-mentioned, never seen mother. Who knew wishful thinking was all Ryan Murphy needed to make it happen? The actress/singer, and wife to 'Sons of Anarchy' creator Kurt Sutter will indeed make an appearance this season on 'Glee,' but will she be everything McHale hoped?

'Sons of Anarchy' fans are no stranger to hearing Katey Sagal sing, but the actress will soon put her talents to a bit more family-friendly audience. 'Glee' series creator Ryan Murphy announced today that Sagal will make an appearance later on in 'Glee's' fourth season, taking the role of Artie Abrams' mother, as Kevin McHale had jokingly requested a year prior at Comic-Con.

“So thrilled to announce my friend Katey Sagal is playing Artie’s mom on Glee,” Murphy said over Twitter. “There is nothing this woman can’t do!” Sagal will appear in a solitary episode in the May sweeps period, with no word or casting of Artie's father, for which McHale had jokingly suggested Harry Connick, Jr. Sagal isn't the first instance of fan-favorite casting either, as observation of resemblance between Lea Michele and Broadway legend Idina Menzel helped influence casting as Rachel's mother Shelby Corcoran.

Well, what say you? Will even 'Sons of Anarchy' fans tune in for Katey Sagal on 'Glee' this May? And in case you didn't know Katey could sing...
