Herb Kelleher, Founder of Southwest Airlines, Passes at age 87
Herb Kelleher moved to Texas to go into business for himself. Little did he know he would go on to build America's most traveled airline based on a concept he wrote on a cocktail napkin in San Antonio years ago!
Early on in his Texas law career, a client came to him with a concept to create a low-fee carrier airline that would travel between the large cities in Texas. Today, Southwest airlines moves more passengers around the United States than any other airline.
Kelleher passed away at the age of 87 on Thursday. Kelleher enjoyed creative marketing plans and boasted about drinking whiskey when most airlines were run by faceless finance wizards.
