Did you know that the great state of Texas is home to the fastest speed limit in the country?

What is Texas Known For?

Texas is known for a lot of different things: The Alamo, the Dallas Cowboys, no state income taxes, and the live music capital of the world just to name a few. But, did you know that the Texas is also home to the fastest speed limit in the nation?

Left Lane's for Passing

There's a stretch of Texas State Highway 130  that runs between North Austin and all the way down to South San Antonio where the speed limit is 80 miles per hour.

80 miles per hour may not sound to unique to Texas because there are several places in the U.S. where you can legally top out at 80, but there is a 41 mile stretch of that Highway where the legal speed limit is 85 miles per hour.

85 miles per hour is the actual posted speed limit, which makes it the fastest stretch of road in the country. BOOM!

Fast and Furious

No, you won't find Dewayne "The Rock" Johnson or Vin Diesel zipping along trying to save the world, but you will find folks getting to and from point A to point B a little quicker on this stretch of highway.

According to a report from KPRC Click2Houston, the private firm that built the road, SH 130 Concession Company, says that the road is safely designed to handle an 85 mile per hour speed limit. State transportation officials seem to agree, so as of September 2012, the 41 mile stretch of the "Pickle Parkway" is the fastest in the U.S.

Safety First

Just because the speed limit is 85 doesn't mean you can drive 95, although you probably will anyway.

Just keep in mind that while driving that fast, anything can go wrong, and if it does, the damage can be severe or even deadly. You should always wear a seat belt.
