An 18-wheeler and a passenger car were involved in a wreck on the Highway 36 bridge between Gatesville and Temple Tuesday morning, halting westbound traffic.

Moffat Fire Chief Hal Pagel said the 18-wheeler hit the bridge railing around 6 a.m. on the east side of the bridge. The passenger car, he said, was likely damaged by debris from the truck. Both drivers were taken away by ambulance with unspecified injuries.

Westbound traffic will remain halted until debris can be cleared and HazMat crews can clean an estimated 60 gallons of diesel fuel that was spilled.
