A Houston furniture giant known for his philanthropy has opened his stores to evacuees displaced by Hurricane Harvey.

WVEC reports that Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale of Gallery Furniture has gathered volunteers and trucks to help rescue people. And he took it a step further by opening a couple of his stores as shelters. Around 400 people were sheltering in those stores Tuesday.

McIngvale told WVEC , "We had several Penske rental trucks, 24-foot trucks that you can get in any flooded street. We sent volunteers out in Houston picking up people. I was raised as a Catholic. I continued my Catholic faith throughout my life, trying to do the right thing and hopefully, you do the right thing and help people along the way"

McIngvale is also providing free breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the evacuees.

This is not the first time he's helped victims of a flood. He also helped 200 evacuees who fled New Olreans from Hurricane Katrina.
