Is Tinder’s Height Filter Shallow or Smart? Texans Weigh In
Tinder just introduced an upcoming new feature that has many guys across Texas pretty riled up.
Tinder's New Feature Sparks Outrage
If you pay for Tinder's Platinum plan, you can now select the minimum and maximum height of the profiles you'd like to match with. Some people think this may help clear the clutter and save time, while others think this is narrow minded, shallow and rude.
The Exclusivity Concern
There are many guys, especially those of shorter stature, that think this is just one more way for them to be excluded from the dating pool. We already have similar measuring contests in Texas that involve trucks, brisket sizes, and now this. Some people believe Tinder is sending out a bad message that how tall you are matters more than your heart.
A Different Perspective: Parameter Setting
The truth is not everyone thinks this is bad news. Some people think that selecting height is no different than selecting age, distance, etc. If we know what we want, what's the difference in establishing the parameters? Others point out that dating apps like Hinge are already doing this, so Tinder is just catching up.
Tinder's Strategy: Attracting Gen Z
This update seems to be in line with Tinder's strategy to remain fresh and pull in Gen Z users. They have been upgrading their platform with added features like safety tools and tools that utilize AI in order to help us connect with others. However, in Texas, we typically value relationships more on how you treat your mama rather than how tall you are.
The Heart of the Matter
At the end of the day, I suppose this new height filter may help others to discover what they are looking for, but it does highlight how picky and shallow online dating has become.
If you're one of the ladies that is eager to use the filter in order to narrow your preferred dating pool, then more power to you. If you're a gentleman of shorter stature that is worried about missing out on some of those women. Don't be worried. You dodged a bullet, or you at least stood still while she fired it over your short little head.
