Believe it or not, we are less than two weeks away from pitchers and catchers reporting for spring training.

Let's flashback to last year when we were just about to start the MLB season and the pandemic hit. The world went on pause and for a while it looked like we wouldn't see baseball or any other sport. Ultimately we were able to not only finish the NBA and NHL seasons, but we got a very abbreviated baseball season as well.

Since then, we are still dealing with the pandemic and sports doesn't really look the same as it did before COVID-19 hit and upended everything. Teams are playing to empty-to-slightly filled stadiums across the country, and without the fans it just seems different.

The arenas are pumping in crowd noise to give it that "live" feel, but it's not fooling anybody. Without the fans in attendance, it's just not the same. But as a sports fanatic, I'll just deal with it and be happy that we have something to root for.

With the NBA and NHL seasons underway, MLB is looking to get their season started as most teams will have pitchers and catchers reporting on February 15, with position players reporting soon after.

MLB was asking the Players Association to delay spring training and the start of the season by one month to allow the pandemic to subside more, but the Players Unions said no.

So, that's that. It's game on for MLB, pandemic be damned.

For us Texas Rangers fans, game one of spring training will be Feb. 27 against the KC Royals. The regular season will open on-time April 1 with the Rangers in KC for their home opener. The Rangers will have their season opener on Monday, April 5 against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Will there be fans in the stands for these games? Let's hope so.
