18 Fugitives Recently on Texas 10 Most Wanted Lists Have Been Caught

The Department of Public Safety publishes online lists of its Top 10 Most Wanted. These lists include the Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitives, Top 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders, and Top 10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrants.  They also include a running list of Top 10 suspects who have been captured, as well as previous Top 10 suspects who are still wanted.

Margaret Lorraine Smith - A Fugitive For 20 Years

One of the most compelling 'still wanted' cases is that of Margaret Lorraine Smith. Law enforcement officers suspect her of hiring a 'hit man' to kill her husband in 2007. It's alleged that she lured her husband to Surfside Beach, Texas, late at night and left him sitting in the sand as the man she hired beat her husband to death with a metal object. Smith and the 'hit man' were both charged with capital murder. Smith's co-defendant was convicted, but Margaret Smith fled Brazoria County before the start of her trial. She has been listed as a fugitive ever since.

Recently Captured Texas Top 10 Suspects

Since the beginning of March 2026, a total of 18 Texas Top 10 suspects have been captured (through the posting of this article). Most of those captured were apprehended in or near major Texas cities; however, a few were arrested at smaller towns such as Pampa and Lufkin. In some cases, anonymous tips led to the capture of these suspects. In those cases, a reward of up to $5,000 was paid.
