A former Texas Tech Red Raider has done it again.

For the second straight year, quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been named to TIME’s Most Influential People list. Mahomes first cracked the list in 2020, returned to it in 2023, and now remains on it for 2024.

But this time he was chosen as one of the cover subjects.

On Tuesday, Time Magazine revealed the cover of the Time 100's April 29 issue with Mahomes' portrait. Time announced the multiple Super Bowl winner is their second 2024 Time 100 cover star.

In the Time article, they said they picked him because of his Super Bowl-winning season, his place in the GOAT (greatest of all time) conversation and his team's most famous fan, Taylor Swift.

“I’ve had a great run. I think I’ve done a great job so far...That’s something I’ll talk about when I’m done playing. Then people can make those decisions," he said in the article.

He is the second person to star on a Time100 cover, after singer-songwriter Dua Lipa.

While many discuss Mahomes as one of the greatest NFL players of all time, he told Time Magazine that you have to earn that title over the years and people can have that conversation once he retires.

And yes he talked about Texas Tech in the article.

"He starred in three sports (football, basketball, baseball) at Whitehouse High School. The Detroit Tigers drafted him in the 37th round, but Mahomes decided to attend Texas Tech, where he was recruited to play both football and baseball. “My goal was to go to college, play three years of football, three years of baseball, and go [back] into the MLB draft,” says Mahomes. His football promise, however, was immediately evident. “Just his playmaking ability and the different arm angles and touch and incredible accuracy, it was phenom-type stuff,” says Kingsbury. “Even when the game seemed chaotic, it was never moving too fast for him. I had just never seen that before.”
