Have you ever learned a weird fact that certainly nobody asked for but is still fun to bring up in conversations? Well, today you have, because a Texas man has earned the Guinness World Record for most paper airplanes constructed in under an hour.
Buckle Up and Stow Your Large Electronic Devices, We Have Another Record
Everyone say hi to Richard DeFreece from Tyler. Two years ago, he set a goal that pushed him to this point. DeFreece told himself that he wanted to be in the Guinness Book of World Records in any way.
Well, his dream came true in December 2025 when he got the go-ahead for challenging the existing record of most paper airplanes created in one hour.
I have always wanted to break a world record and I started thinking, 'What can I possibly do?' because I'm not the fastest and I'm not the strongest, so I started looking at obscure records.
DeFreece then contacted Guinness about the little-known paper airplane record. They informed him that the current holder has created 200 paper airplanes in 60 minutes.
"I think I can break that," said DeFreece.
True to his word, Richard DeFreece was able to fold a whopping 250 paper airplanes in an hour, easily topping the previous record.
CBS19 had nothing but pride for one of East Texas' own making history.
In order for the attempt to be legitimate, witnesses from Guinness were in attendance and each airplane was tested afterwards to ensure they all were sufficient.
How impressive is that? Imagine what this guy gets up to when he's bored at the office... It must feel like Christmas at the O'Hare Airport in Chicago with all those planes whizzing around.
