Lauren Alaina’s Father J.J. Suddeth Dies

Lauren Alaina's father has died. The singer shares with fans that J.J. Suddeth died on Tuesday night (July 23).

"I really don't have the words yet," she adds.

The 29-year-old revealed the news at 10:30AM CT on Wednesday. No details about Suddeth's death were made available, and it's not clear if he was battling any kind of illness at the time. She's been open about his struggles in the past.

In 2018, she shared her stepfather's cancer battle with fans. Sam Ranker died on Oct. 21, 2018.

Alaina had just paid tribute to Suddeth on Father's Day with an Instagram post that featured pictures from her wedding day:

"We lost my daddy last night, and I really don't have words yet," she writes on Instagram before announcing she won't be able to play three shows scheduled for the weekend. "I am going home to be with family."

Canceled are her appearances on Jason Aldean's tour scheduled for Thursday and Friday, and a festival stop slated for Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday.

"Thank you for your prayers and understanding," Lauren Alaina writes. "Pinky (heart emoji)."

Alaina and Cam Arnold married on Feb. 4, 2024, and she wrote a song for her and her father to dance to at the reception. It's called "My Old Man" and it celebrates her bond with her dad, as well as his bond with her new husband.

"I knew I found the one when they became best friends / My good ole boy and my old man," she sings. A recording over wedding footage was posted to her Instagram page.

Previously, Alaina had recorded songs for her mother ("Like My Mother Does") and stepfather. "The Other Side" paid tribute to Ramker after his death.

A song called "Doin' Fine" from her Road Less Traveled album was an autobiographical look at her parents' breakup and how it affected her. During a 2017 interview with Parade, she was candid about her father's struggles with alcohol and how it led to her parents' divorce.

"They didn’t end up working it out, which is unfortunate, but it’s a blessing in disguise because my dad is sober and happy and a great man now and has grown so much because Mom asked for that divorce," she said at the time.

Her parents split in 2013 as Lauren Alaina was battling an eating disorder (per Billboard). She has not shared many photos or updates about J.J. Suddeth in the years that have followed, but when she has talked about her dad, it'd been in a warm and loving way that indicated they'd grown very close.
