For almost 80 years, the city of Killeen has been celebrating cowboys at their best. That’s right, the 79th annual rodeo is coming to Killeen for three days at the Killeen Rodeo Arena, located at 2201 S. W.S. Young Drive, from May 14 through May 16.

This year is especially significant, as it is the only rodeo in Texas where barrel racers and breakaway ropers can qualify for the Cheyenne Frontier Days, the largest outdoor rodeo in the country.
What Does Killeen Need To Look Forward To?
The city of Killeen announced that Thursday night will be Military Appreciation Night. Active-duty, Guard, and Reserve service members, along with their dependents, will receive free admission with a valid military ID. The First Cavalry Horse Detachment will open at 7:15 p.m.
Keeping The Killeen Tradition Going
Friday night will be City of Killeen Employee Night, and Saturday night will be Educators Night. This event is especially meaningful to the city because it has been part of the community for more than seven decades. “We are literally going into our 80th year with this tradition,” the city stated.

In addition, the Special Hearts Rodeo will be held Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and it is also free to the public. The event is designed to provide the special needs community with an adaptive rodeo experience. “All are welcome to attend,” the city of Killeen stated.
