According to CBS Austin, a Temple police officer tragically drowned in Belton Lake on Friday, August 1, while off duty. A 911 call was made at 10:48 a.m., reporting that a man was drowning near the Freedom Boat Club, located at 30681 Cedar Ridge Park Rd., on the lake. Emergency responders worked diligently Saturday morning to recover the body. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office dive team also assisted, and the body was recovered around 9:45 a.m.

The victim was Toalua Aumua, a Temple police officer who sadly lost his life while spending time with his family. He was honored as Officer of the Year in 2021 and named Temple Police Officer of the Year in 2023.
