Texas Dollar Store Closures: Over 40 ’99 Cents Only’ Locations Shutting Down
It’s always hard to say goodbye to some of our favorite stores. This year, we’ve seen closures from Kohl’s, CVS, and even Macy’s in Texas. According to KBTX, Texas is also losing another nostalgic retailer: the $.99 Only Stores, which are closing all locations, not just in Texas, but also in Arizona, California, and Nevada. That brings the total number of store closures to 371.

The $.99 Only Stores, once a go-to destination for affordable essentials, will no longer be an option for budget-conscious shoppers. Interim CEO Mike Simoncic stated that over the past several years, the company has faced significant and persistent challenges in the retail environment. "These include the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, shifting consumer demand, rising levels of shrinkage, persistent inflationary pressures, and other macroeconomic headwinds—all of which have greatly hindered the company’s ability to operate."

After 43 years, the value-driven chain, originally founded in Los Angeles, is saying its goodbyes. Simoncic added, “This was an extremely difficult decision. It is not the outcome we expected or hoped to achieve.” He also expressed deep appreciation for the dedication of the company’s employees, customers, partners, and the community who have supported the brand for decades. It’s truly sad to see this store go—one of the last that genuinely believed in offering everything for just $0.99.
