Motive Unclear In Shooting That Caused Death Of United States Postal Worker In Texas
35 Year Old Kevin J. Hines of the United State Postal Service was shockingly killed in Missouri City, Texas following a shooting started by a coworker. Here's what is known at the time of writing.
Time Of The Crime And Arrest Of The Suspect
According to ABC13 Houston, on December 9th, 2024, the shooting began around the time of 9:45 PM at 611 Highway 90 Alt, where the postal office was located. Per the news organization, police were notified of the violence and responded. According to and inspector from the Houston Division of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Dana Carter, they stated to ABC13:
"I can confirm that there was one individual involved. That individual is in custody, and the community is safe...At this time, there is one victim. That person is deceased, and again, this is an active investigation. We are going to continue to work through that process as we get ready to notify next of kin."
Derrick Lott, The Individual Arrested For The Shooting
According to ABC13, Derrick Lott is the man police took into custody for the violent act. Law enforcement was able to arrest him at the scene of the crime. ABC13, as revealed in the video available above, stated his bond was placed at $2 Million.
In another comment to FOX 26 Houston, Carter said the following:
"Our employees deserve to feel safe when they come to work. Postal inspectors are working tirelessly to ensure justice is served on behalf of Kevin Hines, his family, and all of the employees who work in this facility."
At the time of writing, no motive from Lott has been revealed. As this is a developing story, we will have more information when it becomes available.
