Big things always happen in the great state of Texas - sometimes good and sometimes bad. The older I get the more I realize what’s more important to me. When I was growing up I thought fancy cars, big houses, and lots of money were something that would make my life completely different.

Once I was old enough to realize that materialistic things just cannot satisfy you when it comes to feeling security and reassurance, I found that safety and financial stability are two things that I strive to always have. The fact is that now I have my own family, I always want the best for no only myself, but my child and my husband‘s well-being.

I love life here in Killeen, but it has a reputation for being dangerous. However, it turns out it's not (statistically speaking) the most dangerous city in Central Texas. In fact, you'd probably be surprised by the town that gets that dubious honor.

DOES DANGER LURK AROUND YOUR CORNER?

The good people at Property Club looked over FBI and local crime stats to determine which Texas cities are the most dangerous.

#1 didn't come as much of a surprise to anyone. It was Houston, followed by #2 San Antonio, #3 Lubbock, #4 Beaumont, #5 Dallas, #6 Mesquite, #7 Austin, and #8 Corpus Chriti.

Again, nothing shocking there. #10 was Pasadena.

WHAT WAS #9?

Believe it or not, it was Waco. Yes, our neighbor just a short drive north up I-35.

According to Property Club's findings, Waco experienced a crime rate of 7.18 per 1000 people, making it 74% more dangerous than the national average. In 2020, there were 911 violent crimes, which included 14 murders. Robberies, assaults, burglaries, and vehicle thefts were also high in number.

Waco is home to Baylor University, and has become the headquarters of Chip and Joanna's Magnolia empire. Plenty of us visit there every year without any problems. Still, it's crazy to see the stats, and it makes you wonder what's going on up there.

Stay safe out there, Texas.
