A man from Waco, Texas, Nikolas Sedillio was placed in jail for almost one year, standing accused of felony assault family violence. However, he never did the actual crime. Here's what is known at the time of writing.

What Were The Beginnings Of The Case?

According to KWTX, in January of 2024, Jasmine Vansickle reported to police that she was assaulted at Trenwood Apartments in Waco. Vansickle, identifed as the mother of Sedillio's children, and other observer reports of the crime led police to take Sedillio into custody a month. But law enforcement did not have video evidence of the crime, which created some problems.

Sedillio himself was very confused at the the time of his arrest, telling KWTX:

“I ended up getting a text message from the mother of my child. She said the cops were outside. ‘I pressed some charges on you.’ They asked if I could go outside to talk to them, and went I went outside they said, ‘put your hands behind your back you have a warrant out for your arrest.'"

What Changed Which Led To Sedillio Being Released From Prison?

Sedillio's newly appointed lawyer, Jessenia Ruiz was able to obtain video evidence of the situation when it occurred at the complex. Per KWTX, Sedillio was not identified in the video. Sedillio's charge was dismissed, but questions then turned to Vansickle's original statement.

KTWX revealed that Vansickle told the law enforcement the same story twice, in written form and in testimony to a Waco police detective. Vansickle was taken into custody and charged with a false report to a peace officer. Waco Police did also release a statement on the matter:

“Knowingly providing false information to any peace officer is a criminal act that may result in legal consequences. False reports can mislead investigations, harm innocent individuals, and delay justice for those who truly need assistance. We urge all members of the community to act responsibly when reporting incidents. If you believe a crime has occurred, please provide truthful and accurate information to help us protect and serve the City and its residents.”

As this is a developing story, we will have more information if it becomes available.
