Rest Up Texas, The Best Meteor Shower Of The Year Is Now Approaching

Texas benefits from close to 300 days of sunshine for much of the state, and so it is no surprise that means just about as many corresponding clear nights to enjoy our ginormous sky. If you can escape the triangle of the bulk of the Lone Star State's population, and escape into the vase quarter of a million square miles of the great outdoors, you can often find quite the celestial show.

My three kids are still fairly young, so we do not get to chase after major events like this very often, and it is one of the biggest reasons I was so thankful Central Texas was directly on the path of this past year's total solar eclipse.

As you can hear from the above podcast, this weekend will be prime time for viewing the Geminids meteor shower. According to Time and Date, you will have to deal with a nearly full moon for the peak of the meteor shower, but fear not because I have a plan.

If you are lucky enough to have early risers, get outside just before sunrise on Saturday the 14th, and you will get quite the show. In fact, the moon should be low enough by 6 AM Saturday morning that its nearly full stage should not cause any issues for the shower show.
