Texas Mother Now Charged With Murder Of Her Newborn
Austin, Texas Police placed a 21 year old woman under arrest Wednesday afternoon after a warrant was issued for the murder of her then only 6 week old baby son on November 27th, 2024.

Texas authorities were called to a local children's hospital to investigate the death of Marcello Hernandez-Mendoza who was just born on October 14th, 2024. Child Protective Services were also notified as investigators looked into the cause of death for the newborn.
What did investigators determine was the cause of death for the newborn baby?
According to this KVUE article, the baby was brought to the hospital for having trouble breathing, and he later was pronounced dead after lifesaving measures were attempted by the medical team. Austin Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists were able to quickly identify several trauma injuries to the body of baby Marcello, so they continued to look into his death by interviewing both parents.

The investigation continued from the date of Marcello's passing, and finally on Wednesday, December 18th, a capital murder warrant was issued for his mother Jacqueline Mendoza-Ramirez, and she was apprehended the same day.

According to this KXAN article, this murder matches the 18 homicides committed by family or the result of domestic violence in Austin. Thus far in 2024, 68 homicides have occurred, and that puts the total just 6 behind last year's count.
