One Texas Band Was Lucky To Have Their Name on a NASCAR Race Car
When was the last time you've seen a rock band from Texas be featured on a NASCAR...car? Well we've certainly seen bands been shown on NASCAR vehicles before, and we've even seen Texas colleges be sponsored in NASCAR. As for Texas band, there has only been one Texas band that HAS. That band is the hard rock band from Palestine, Texas: Blacktop Mojo.
When did Blacktop Mojo have a NASCAR race car?
It was before the 2021 Brickyard 400 held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the band announced on August 13th that a race car was designed with their logo & was ready to make a start during that very race. Kyle Tilley would drive the 78 Live Fast Motorsports Ford Mustang on August 15th, just two days after the band would release their self-titled album (Not a bad way to get your name out there).
So how did the car do? Well the results from the race showed that Kyle wouldn't race, instead Andy Lally would take the wheel & start the engine for the number 78. Andy would sadly finish in 39th place; the car would DNF.
But that didn't matter to the band, they were happy to see the car hit the track during the car and that it was returned in one piece.
And in case you're wondering, yes the album did release on August 13, 2021.
I love that we got to see a Texas band on a NASCAR vehicle. If we were going to see more artists, my picks would be:
- ZZ Top since they have performed AT the Texas Motor Speedway in the past (and Billy has an impressive car collection)
- Midland since they performed at Bristol back in September of 2023.
- & Pantera because of their return to performing & plus I'd love to see the Abbott Brothers on a race car.
Kudos to Blacktop Mojo for getting that opportunity of having their own race car! Not many bands have that chance...
