According to music experts, some of the worst songs that have ever exist belong to Texas musicians. For the most part, our track record has been good; several amazing Texas artists and bands have put out classics. Not many artists put songs that make on the "worst songs" lists but some have. You've probably heard these songs too.

Legendary Stardust Cowboy "Paralzyed"

Norman Carl Odam, aka the Legendary Stardust Cowboy, hails from Lubbock, Texas. The same city that gave us the legendary Buddy Holly. Norman is known to be a pioneer for the psychobilly sound in the 1960s. However his most known song, "Paralyzed" has been considered one of the "Worst Songs Issued by a Major Label" in the 1994 book "The New Book of Rock Lists". The song has even been BANNED by NASA.

And YET... the song WAS included in Toby Creswell's book, 1001 Songs: The Great Songs of All Time. Nevertheless...here's the song so you can hear for yourself.

Vanilla Ice "Ice Ice Baby"

Yeah...are you shocked this song is on the list? Many people forget that Robert Van Winkle is from Houston, Texas. But we've never forgotten the..."gem" that Vanilla Ice gave us in the 90s: "Ice Ice Baby". Blender put this song at #5 in their top 50 worst songs of all time & Rolling Stone Magazine put it in their top 10 worst songs of the 90s list.

Some say it might very well be the worst song from any Texas artist. Now I haven't heard every song so I can't say that's for certain but what IS for certain... once you hear it... you can never UNhear it. I WILL say though... if it wasn't for this song, we wouldn't have the amazing parody on Living Colour. But here is the original one...listen at your own risk...

Play-N-Skillz "Literally I Can't"

This song is barely 10 years old & yet the hip hop group from Irving, Texas, Play-N-Skillz gave us what Billboard & Music Weekly considered the WORST song of the 2010s: "Literally I Can't" featuring Redfoo, Lil Jon & Enertia McFly. The main complaint for the song is the lyrical content; the song is HIGH in it objectification of women. Music Weekly even called this the "new anthem" for misogyny.

You can't find the song on Spotify but the music video is still on YouTube.

George Strait "All My Exes Live in Texas"

One song I'm actually surprised is considered the worst is "All My Exes Live in Texas" by George Strait. And I'm not the only one; Wide Open Country made a BIG deal when this song was included in a 2017 survey of the worst songs by Texas artists. The other songs from a Texas artist on that list included:

  • Waco's Ashlee Simpson - "LA LA",
  • Kayt Texas' RiFF RaFF - "Dolce and Gabbana",
  • & Vanilla Ice "Ice Ice Baby",

Personally I think there are far worse country songs out there; but I'm just one man's opinion (I also loved hearing this song on GTA San Andreas). But here's the song so you can judge it for yourself.

Apologies for all the ear worms you can't get out of your head.
