Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has been suspended from his post after his peers in the Texas House voted in favor of impeachment. Here is what we know so far.

What Led To Paxton's Impeachment?

Recently, Paxton accused Dade Phelan of being intoxicated while serving as Speaker Of The Texas House. Following the accusation, according the the Texas Tribune, the House General Investigating Committee stated they had been looking into Paxton since March. On Wednesday, the Committee provided their evidence, which the Texas Tribune reports including misuse of power and funds, and breaking many laws.

Paxton was also accused of requesting $3.3 million in taxpayer money to settle whistleblower cases despite providing no information or evidence to support the request. According to the Austin American-Statesman, this accusation ultimately triggered the impeachment effort.

Following the testimonies of the the Committee, a vote was held to decide if the Texas House would impeach Paxton. The final vote tally was 121-23, in favor of the 20 articles of impeachment that were put forth. This has suspended Paxton from his post of Texas Attorney State General - for now, at least.
