The plan is to open a newer, bigger, Texas department of Public Safety driver's license office in Killeen. In an effort to bring down wait times and shorten lines, the DPS is thinking about a new facility across from Shoemaker High School on Elms road. The proposal calls for construction to begin this year with a completion date in 2017.

Killeen Mayor Jose Segarra says the new facility would also add additional staff to help speed up customer assistance.

The lease on the current Killeen office at 302 Priest Drive runs out in April of 2017. Killeen Councilman Juan Rivera thinks the new office site is just what the city needs, as customers sometimes wait as long as four hours at the current office. Rivera said, "If you go at noon, they give you a ticket for the next day."
