A Killeen man has been arrested for the stabbing death of another man on May 21, 2025. The man, identified by police as Ondarien Jamall Kelly, died from his injuries.

Dispute Turns Deadly

According to police, Kelly and the suspect, 35-year-old Cecil Tamez Jr. were friends. Police say the two were involved in a dispute around 5:30 PM. At some point during the dispute, Tamez stole a kitchen knife and stabbed Kelly before fleeing the scene.

Nearly Two-Week Manhunt Ends

Killeen Police found Tamez on Monday, June 2, 2025 after searching for him for almost two weeks. The police found Tamez hiding underneath a house on Cartwright Drive.

Failed Evasion Attempt

Police described how Tamez tried to hide from police by burying himself underneath the house with dirt. While this was a good concept, it also was not a successful one, and Tamez was arrested.

Formal Charges and Bond Set

After police arrested Tamez, they processed him at Killeen City Jail. Killeen Justice of the Peace Larry Wilkey formally charged Tamez with murder, and set a bond of $1 million. Tamez was transferred to Bell Jail, and remains incarcerated. Killeen PD continues the investigation.

Community Seeks Peace and Reflection

Neighbors report that the nexus of this incident is said to have an historically quiet, residential nature, which makes the violent crime even more disturbing. Some neighbors stated that this being committed by two men who are familiar villagers within the community.

As the investigation continues now is a time for rest and reflection from this unfortunate tragedy. I hope this situation stimulates further dialogue about conflict resolution, and mental health resources in Killeen.
