Wastewater Fix: Lake Pointe Ends ‘Fart Smell’ Horror Story
Residents of the Lake Pointe community can finally breathe a sigh of relief because the eye watering fart smells in the air have finally dissipated. It's an issue that has been disturbing the members of the community since Christmas, and they are finally experiencing some relief thanks to the West Travis County Public Utility Agency (WTCPUA).
Aging Plant, Stinky Problem
The foul-smelling odors have been troubling the community for years, and the culprit of the stench is an aging water treatment facility. The wastewater treatment plant has been in operation next to the neighborhood since the 1990s, and over time the infrastructure of the plant has experienced damage and deterioration. Every time there is an incident at the plant the neighborhood reeks of the unbearable fart smell.
Lift Station Solution: Bye-Bye Bad Smells! ️
Hopefully, based off of new plans to turn the plant into a lift station, the neighbors of the plant will no longer be burdened with the ongoing reek of flatulence. The wastewater will be carried downstream where the Boles plant would then treat the wastewater after switching the Lakepointe plant over to a lift station.
TCEQ Review: Approving the Stench Solution ✅
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is currently reviewing the expansion before deciding to approve of the plan. In the meantime, the West Travis County Public Utility Agency (WTCPUA) is continuing to make repairs and updates to the facility in order to lower the number of incidents that result in the foul odor wafting through the neighborhood.
As a homeowner, I am very empathetic to the people that live in Lake Pointe. The smell isn't only making living there difficult it would also make selling their homes difficult and result in the value of their homes decreasing.
