Rain and flooding can cause all kinds of problems but rarely are they as visually spectacular as a big hole in the earth opening up. A very large sink hole was discovered this morning in the 900 block of E. Herring Ave., thought to have been caused by a collapsed sewer main, although not yet confirmed according to authorities.

No sewage was released to the surrounding area and public health is not in danger. Waco police say the sink hole area has been declared off limits. Traffic along westbound Herring Ave., from J.J. Flewellen Rd. to Dallas St. iwill be closed until the repairs are complete. Dallas St. and Faulkner Ln. as an alternate route.

At this time, repairs are estimated to take, at least, three to four weeks, police said in a news release.
