Mother, Toddler Killed in Killeen Traffic Collision

Killeen police are investigating an early morning crash that fatally injured a woman and her child.

According to KPD spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez, officers were dispatched to the 5400 block of Veterans Memorial Boulevard at 12:36 AM Thursday in response to a crash. When they arrived, officers discovered two people lying in the roadway.

The victims were identified as 32-year-old Ashley Carol Leonetti of Harker Heights and her 2-year-old girl. They were pronounced dead at the scene at 1:15 AM.

Evidence suggests a black Hyundai sedan being driven eastbound along VMB struck the victims as they walked along the roadway. The driver of the sedan was not injured. Police have not released further details.

The crash remained under investigation late Thursday morning. The victims' remains will undergo autopsy in Dallas.
