One of my favorite mantras from the Marine Corps is "Piss Poor Planning Promotes Piss Poor Performance." It's such a great adage for everything from project planning to life-or-death situations. The 7Ps went hand in hand with another Marine Corps saying, "Hope for the Best but Prepare for the Worst."

What Could Possibly Go Bad in Texas?

Preparing for the unknown is the whole point about being prepared for anything. You need to have the tools and the training to survive any event whether it's a natural disaster or a crazy person wreaking havoc on society. Texas has seen its fair share of natural disaster having to deal with tornados, hurricanes, and wildfires just to name a few. The Lone Star State has also experienced horrific tragedies caused by people. The Ft. Hood shooting, the school shooting in Uvalde, and recently when a man running from police drove a truck through the Killeen Mall resulting in the injury of several people.

How Can Texans Prepare for the Worst?

There are some things that will take an extended period of time to prepare for in case tragedy strikes. You won't be able to get into great physical condition overnight, and any sort of self-defense training that you will want to undertake can take months or even years to become proficient in. For the time being the best thing that you can do is make yourself a go-bag. A go-bag is a bag packed with the items that you would need when you have to make an emergency evacuation from your home.

Here are 10 items that you must have in your go-bag!
