The Most Popular Bread in Texas is Sweet
It's official, Texas has a favorite bread, and, it should come as no surprise that it is probably your abuelita's favorite too!
The folks over at Shane Co. did some very tasty research to determine the most popular bread type in each state. There's tons to choose from; sourdough, ciabatta, French, croissant, seriously I could go on. But I am very proud to say that one bread reigned supreme in the Lone Star state!
Shane Co. collected data and bread type popularity to discover that in Texas, pan dulce is the most popular and favorite bread!
Pan dulce, if you're not aware, is the general name for a variety of Mexican pastries translating to “sweet bread” in English. Pan dulce was also popular in one other state: California- looks like we have more in common with the Golden State than we thought we did!
I have to admit, I am a little surprised to learn that pan dulce is the favorite in Texas; not because it's not worthy of being the most popular, but because I didn't think that pan dulce would count as bread! I figured it would be a pastry, but I guess a pastry is also bread.
I'm a big fan of pan dulce; conchas are my favorite!
I love dunking a concha in a hot coffee in the morning; and I love dunking a concha in milk at night for a midnight snack! But I don't discriminate, I think all pan dulce is great, so much so that I think a pan dulce truck would be a hit here in Texas!
