A woman in Austin, Texas is currently in custody after she was alleged to have attempted to kidnap an unidentified child. Here's what is known at the time of writing.

Penny Vega And Her Purported Actions

According to KXAN, court documents from Travis County reveal what Penny Vega is alleged to have done. According to the documents, on April 16th, 2024, 911 was alerted to a woman on north Interstate 35 service road and E. Rundburg Lane in regards to her actions.

Per the affidavit, three children, one that was five years old, were crossing the street when Vega appeared. Vega then attempted to take the five year old, One of the children quickly moved to find assistance in stopping Vega, and other adults were able to stop Vega from taking the unnamed child.

A statement from the mother of the victim was provided in the documents as well:

“[The victim] said the lady, [Vega,] told her she was her new mom and that she was her daughter."

Further Details Reveals In The Legal Filings

KXAN also revealed that video of the incident was obtained by investigators, which confirmed what the children reported. In addition, police made efforts to talk to Vega, but her attorney turned them down.

The documents also state the measures taken by Vega "more than mere preparation to commit the offense of kidnapping." At the time of writing, Vega is in the Travis County Jail.
